We recently saw a small uptick of players having issues with launching Forest Grove.
We’re still currently looking for the underlying root cause of the error however we’ve found 2 potential solutions.
If you have previously played the demo this can be causing a boot up crash. We recommend deleting any old save data by going to those folders AppData\LocalLow\Miga\Forest Grove\Saves and/or \AppData\LocalLow\Blowfish Studios\Forest Grove
If that doesn’t resolve the boot up crash, we recommend disabling the inbuilt Unity graphic optimisation feature. Unfortunately with this feature it is deemed as experimental as it has not been optimized for all hardware. We can guide you through on how to turn it off.
- First locate the installed files of the game. This can be located through this file path \Steam\steamapps\common\Forest Grove or you can go through Steam by selecting the wheel icon on the game page and clicking Properties. A pop up window will appear and select Installed Files on the left hand side menu then select Browse. This should pop up the file location in your windows explorer. Delete the save folder, once that is done boot up the game.
- Select the ForestGrove_Data folder
- You will need to locate the boot.config
- Once you have located this file, open Wordpad. This can be located by typing in the Windows start menu and searching Wordpad in the search bar.
- Once you have Wordpad open you will need to open the boot.config file from the ForestGrove_Data folder. If you’re able to see it in the folder, you may need to change your file type to all documents which is located above the open button
- Once the file is open you will see the below lines
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1
Simply change the 1 to 0 without leaving any space after =. It should look like this
gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=0
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=0
Then simply save the file, do not change any of the other lines in this file.
- Now go back to Steam, you should be able to boot up the game successfully.
If the above solutions do not work, please as always reach out to our support team through this link https://blowfishstudios.zendesk.com . We recommend that you send through your player log files for us to review this can be located in your saves folder under AppData\LocalLow\Miga\Forest Grove\Saves and/or Steam\steamapps\common\Forest Grove\Save
We appreciate your patience as we work through this issue!
